A SPACE FOR ART
our main focus is hosting art residencies and talks, live sessions,
exhibitions, and workshops.
our concept is simple. an open space – room for experimentation
and free artistic expression. all art disciplines are welcome here,
and we especially invite conceptual and interdisciplinary projects
and collaborations, and creative research.
check here to see if we have open calls at the moment
FAFETINE RESIDENCY
our main residency space is located on the banks of the
beautiful Inkomati river near the south Mozambican town of
Marracuene, and just across from Macaneta beach and
the Indian Ocean, inviting resident artists to slow down
and connect.
part of the fafetine community, the space comes with
several small individually designed residency houses,
organic gardens and a growing food forest. we try to
keep emptyroom as ecologically sustainable as possible.
when you’re not working in the shared studio-gallery,
wood and metal workshop, firing up the ceramics oven, or
developing in our on-site darkroom, you can enjoy long
walks in nature, gardening, kayaking on the river or simply
letting your mind run loose in one of our many chillout
spaces.
depending on each open call, our residencies can be for
individual artists, couples or groups, and entail anything
between resident artists starting-continuing-finishing their
own project, collaborations, workshops, talks, and
exhibitions. our 45m outdoor exhibition wall is just one
possibility to present your work while you’re here.
KAMPFUMO EXCURSIONS
a one-hour drive away, visiting artists have the opportunity to spend
a night or even a few days at the emptyroom founders’ personal studio,
a 2-bedroom duplex-apartment next to the botanical garden Jardim Tunduru
in the heart of Mozambiques capital city Maputo, walking distance from many
art venues and galleries, allowing artists to take a break from their peaceful
retreat and dive deep into Maputo’s vibrant art scene.
we are happy to help you get connected.
